Mark your calendars for a greener future in Sammamish! The City of Sammamish, in a collaborative effort with the City of Issaquah, is hosting a premier recycling event on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This eco-friendly gathering will take place at the Eastside Catholic School, offering community members a fantastic opportunity to declutter responsibly. This event is made possible thanks to the combined efforts of various organizations such as the WA State Department of Ecology, King County Solid Waste Division, and more, emphasizing our communal commitment to sustainability and environment conservation.
Whether you’re a neighborhood resident, a potential home buyer considering the green values of our community, or a business owner aiming to reduce your carbon footprint, this event is for you. It’s a chance to come together, dispose of recyclable goods safely, and maybe even learn a thing or two about the importance of recycling in maintaining a healthy planet. Plus, it’s entirely free to participate! So, bring your friends and family and join us in making a positive impact on our lovely city’s environmental health.
What to Bring
Ready to clear out your clutter for a cause? Here’s what you need to know about the materials accepted at the event: Bring your worn-out appliances, scrap metal, confidential documents for shredding, Styrofoam blocks and packing peanuts, mattresses, propane tanks, porcelain toilets, and sinks, as well as refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners. Note that there will be fees for certain items – $35 for each mattress, box spring, refrigerator, freezer, and air conditioner; $25 for porcelain toilets and sinks; $10 for propane tanks; and a mere $5 for water heaters. These fees are cash-only, so come prepared with exact changes to keep the line moving smoothly.
Things to Keep in Mind
Keep in mind that there are a few restrictions to what can be recycled at the event. Items like light fixture ballasts, sealed drums, furniture, wet or soiled mattresses, or any metal coated with rubber or oil are a no-go. This ensures the safety and efficiency of the recycling process, so please review the list of accepted items before you arrive. Also, remember to limit your confidential document shredding to 4 file-size boxes or 5 bags per car—security and privacy are paramount, and all shredding is done on-site. This event is more than just a recycling drive; it’s a step towards a more sustainable future for Sammamish and its wonderful residents.
